Thirteen Democrats and two Republicans engaged in a last effort to rally supporters Tuesday as voters cast their ballots in New York City's mayoral primary, the first citywide election to use ranked choice voting.

Ranked choice means voters get to rank up to five candidates in order of preference rather than selecting just one. It means voters who rank more candidates have more individual impact in various races than in the past. It also means New York is not going to know who wins the Democratic primary for weeks.
