Quebec Premier François Legault struck a cautiously optimistic tone on Monday during his daily briefing on the impact of COVID-19 in the province, stating that the situation in Quebec is beginning to improve.

The province reported some its lowest increases in cases and deaths attributable to the virus on Monday since the outbreak began in earnest some three months ago.

Quebec recorded 295 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the province’s total number of infections to 51,354.

“It doesn’t mean the battle is over,” noted Legault, stressing the importance of physical distancing and wearing masks.

The province recorded 20 more deaths in the past 24 hours, one of the lowest increases since the start of the pandemic. Quebec lead the country in fatalities with a total of 4,661 deaths.
